I remember when I was a kid I loved checking the mail to see what goodies came to the house each day. I would eagerly flip through advertisements, magazines, and junk to find that one perfect envelope with my own name on it. There was so much magic in knowing that someone thought of me during their day and I was blessed with the chance to hold the thought in my hand! In middle school my friends and I would write notes to each other when we couldn’t sit together in class, when we wouldn’t see each other all day, or when we were right beside each other. To have a glimpse into another person’s world and to know that it can happen any day of the year without any expectation – that’s the magic of snail mail. Spreading smiles one surprise letter at a time.
This month our coaches visited us in Thailand to walk us through our spiritual growth and give us encouragement for the season that is ahead of us (plus a few hugs). Ruth and Phil, dub squad coaches, have such serving hearts they brought us snail mail all the way from home! (They had to bring an extra suitcase thanks to all of you who participated). It was amazing to get cards from friends and family and hear all about what is happening at home. I loved reading everyone’s writing and kind thoughts about my journey. I could hear all of your voices and feel your hugs like you were right in Thailand with me! I loved all the letters but the surprise letters left a big impact.
Hidden among my pile of 100 letters there were notes from people who don’t comment on every blog. I loved being surprised with letters from people I haven’t heard from in awhile! It is hard to keep up with everyone while I am away so thank you for keeping up with me. I am so blessed by all of your love and encouragement.
So this blog is a thank you to all of you who read daily, monthly, or just passing through. Thank you for your love. It may seem like a surprise, but your heart does not surprise me. Your love is more powerful than you or I can ever realize.
Thank you for loving me and hearing my story.
Each letter I open is a new gift to my journey and I can’t wait to come home and tell you all more in person!
