Here are some of my favorite things about last month in Nicaragua…

They have Christmas lights up all over town…year around.

Our house was called “El Castillo” (The Castle). All the women that come through the program are called “Princesas.”

I got to go salsa dancing…twice!

At any given time, you could usually see a gecko running across the wall in our house.

My favorite little girl, Jocelyn, would frequently run across whatever room we were in and jump in my arms.

I had my feet washed by a woman in the program.

Insanity workouts as a group were always a blast!

On our last full day of the program, my team led worship (in Spanish), taught a Bible study, washed each of women’s feet while we prayed over them, served them lunch, watched a presentation with pictures of all of us together throughout the month, took a hundred more photos together, and shed hundreds of tears.

I got to go volcano boarding! 30 mph on a board sliding down the side of an active volcano!

I saw how hope and love can completely transform a person’s life.

We met a taxi driver that became our personal chauffeur for the whole month. His name was Alfonzo. He was like our grandpa and took such good care of us.

I got to hang out with my friends from the States for 2 hours when they flew into the Managua airport.

I woke up to watch over 20 sunrises from my back porch.

I learned to open up and be vulnerable in ways I’ve never been before.

I met a woman who I called “mama” and would spend every morning waiting for her to come to the castle. She always gave the best hugs.

I got to have entire conversations in Spanish.

One of the best things was sitting outside in the afternoon with our host, Kenya, and her little boy, Domingo, just talking and laughing.

We ordered pizza 3 times at the house. (I ate a total of 19 slices…)

Saying goodbye was heartbreaking…

All around, an incredible month that changed my life!
