Some of the Story . . .
During my four years at APU I felt God asking me to go to Africa, but I kept saying no for various reasons.  I was scared and felt very inadequate.  During my senior year I finally said, “Ok, God, I will go.”  I literally felt such freedom that is hard to describe.  I had four weeks between graduation and the time I started my first nursing job, and within a week I was on a team to Kenya for three weeks.  That was the first time I went to Africa and God planted the seed for my love for Africa, the people & global health.

After I began working at Loma Linda Children’s Hosptial I took the NCLEX (registered nursing test) and did not pass.  I have felt what it is like to be a complete failure.  I could not understand why I did not pass if God wanted me to be a nurse.  Prior to taking the test I had heard about Youth With a Mission and the Introduction to Primary Health Care field school in Tanzania, Africa.  I was sad I could not do it b/c of my new job, but after I didn’t pass the NCLEX, all of a sudden it became an option.  I realized I would have never made that decision to quit my job & do YWAM on my own if I had passed and continued in my job.

I prayed about it & felt God’s peace.  I asked God to confirm it through my mom.  Her first response was, “UUGGHH, no . . . !”  It was true, I was just out of nursing school, no money, no experience.  It was not the smart thing to do.  So I went back to God & asked Him to change her heart if He wanted me to go.  A week later she asked me during lunch, “If you could choose between continue your nursing career or going to Africa & raising $10,000 to do it, what would you do?”  I said, “I feel like God is asking me to go to Africa, so I would do that.”  Then after a pause she said, “Ok, then do it.”  The rest is history.

During the year of 2006 I did the Discipleship Training School (DTS)  in Montana & India and the Introduction to Primary Health Care School in Tanzania, Africa.  I came back & started working at St. Bernardine Medical Center in the ER for 2 1/2 years.
