Many tears fell that night.  Girls gathered closely in a circle as one by one they shared one of their most intimate stories of their heart.  As she caught her breath, she shared about how her father has left, or doesn’t show affection or has passed away.  Deep sobs for breath echoed throughout the room.  Broken hearts in need of mending was all I could see; maturing young women with little princess hearts, who only wanted to be held, loved and told they are beautiful.  I know there is hope.  There is hope to feel the love of God as a father:

He will be your refuge when you need someone to
protect you (2 Samuel 22:3).

He will be faithful to you (Psalms 33:4).

He is the father of the fatherless (Ps 68:5).

He will give you a family (Ps 68:5).

He will never leave you, even though you may be scared
that He will (Jeremiah 29:11).

He sees you, wounded daughter, as his own (2 Cor 6:18).

“So then, he is the father of all who believe . . .” (Romans 4:11).

He will always love us despite what we have done (Romans 3:23).

This is the Father I have come to know.  My story is similar to many of these Nicaraguan girls. I have not seen or spoken to my dad in years.  I have noticed a generational issue reoccuring in my family.  My  grandma, my dad’s mom, did not speak to my him for years, also.  He does not even know she passed away.  I am sure they did not intend to not speak to their children for years at a time.

My sister and I have always said we would never let that happen.  However, during this month I have seen that we may need more than just our resolve.  I have never thought to pray about it before. Good intentions are not enough.  We are all humans with faults.  I would never dream of not talking to my future children, but I know that most parents don’t think that either.  So as a warrior for my future family, I have prayed that there will be no division within my family and future generations to come.
