For my birthday this year, my amazing team took a little
trip to Ometepe Island!

When we arrived on Monday, the day before my birthday, we
first went to a place called Ojo de Agua to go
swimming in a natural spring. It was raining, and I didn’t get in, but it was
still fun.

Next, we were hungry, so we drove further along on the
island to go to a coffee plantation for lunch. The view was beautiful!

After that, we headed towards our hotel for the night. We
didn’t actually have one yet, so we drove around and explored the island as we
looked for a place. The roads are pretty bad there, so it was almost as if we
were off-roading in our rented jeep.

The next day was my birthday. I woke up bright and early and
listed to an audio sermon as I layed in a hammock. Oh, and I opened my first
birthday card.

Then we all went to breakfast at the American Café. We had
pancakes, cinnamon toast, coffee, French toast, and eggs for breakfast. Yum
yum.

Next, they had planned for us to go hiking up one of the two
volcanoes on the island. Unfortunately, it had been raining all morning, and we
were told it would be too muddy and dangerous, and no guide would take us.

So, instead, we went kayaking!

We rented three kayaks and paddled out to a tiny island off
of Ometepe Island.  And surprisingly enough, nobody fell in the
lake!

Then we drove back to the hotel and relaxed for a couple
hours. Haley and I also walked around the town and explored a little bit. We
ended up at a restaurant for a drink and to hang out for a while.

Later on, we all met for dinner at the one legit restaurant
on the island: El Ranchito. It’s actually not Mexican, but specializes in
pizza. So we all split some pizzas.

And of course, no birthday is complete without cake.

Thankyou to everyone on my team who helped plan this amazing
birthday extravaganza! Thank you specifically to Brandon who planned most of
it. Love you bro!

And also thank you to all my family and friends back at home
who sent me cards and gifts nearly 2 months ago (which I’ve been carrying
around ever since). I love you guys and can’t wait to see you. Thank you for
making my birthday special even from across the world!
