Well here I am writing my first blog “on the road.” I’m not
sure when exactly I’ll be able to post it, but I have some extra time in the Phoenix
airport so I figure, why not? At 945am this morning I left my home in California,
which I won’t see again for 11 months—crazy!
Sidenote: thank you to all my friends and family that came to the
airport to see me off. It meant a lot to me and I will miss you all so much!!
The flight to Phoenix was short and
sweet; I just read a few pages of my book and chatted with a girl sitting next
to me about her fake ID and her desire to start a charity. I landed with only 1
hour until my next flight left. Luckily, the gates where I got off and where I
needed to get on were only about 20ft apart. Distance didn’t help me much
though, because US Airways decided to overbook and 20 people didn’t make it on
the flight, including me! I spent the next 3 hours trying to figure out how to
get to Atlanta, and after a bazillion pay phone calls (I can’t even express how
much I already appreciate/miss cell phones) and talking to the lady at the
ticket counter, I was blessed with the best possible scenario: a 2:40pm flight
to Atlanta that will get me there by 930pm tonight, a seat assignment of 1F
(yeah, that’s first class!) and a compensation check for the inconvenience. I
think this was the perfect way to start the year… God showing me how He will
provide and take care of me. Things may not have gone exactly as planned, but
they did go better. I’m still getting to Atlanta
today and I received a check, and I get to ride there in style and more
importantly, comfort! I’m definitely sleeping on this flight… 3 hours of sleep
last night was not close to enough. Well I guess this means that my first
challenge is complete, and it looks like I passed. Stay tuned for more updates
about training camp! Miss you all back at home!
