“Now faith is being sure of
what we hope for and
certain of what we do
not see.”

Hebrews 11:1

A lot of times I wish I
had more faith. In fact, that tends to be a pretty consistent prayer of mine… Lord give me more faith, more trust.

“I
tell you the truth, if you have faith
as
small as a mustard seed
, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here
to there’ and it will move.
Nothing will be
impossible for you.”

Matthew 17:20

My
faith is so small! It’s beyond small. Small moves mountains. My faith must be a
speck, or a speck on a speck even. My faith requires a microscope to see it.

So
how do I increase it? As per usual, in trying to find the answer, I tend to
look at myself. My initial instinct is to look inward and say, okay Christie, get more faith… do whatever
you have to do, but somehow, you have to muster up some more faith.

My
message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a
demonstration of the Spirit’s power,
so that your
faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power
.”

1 Corinthians 2:4-5

It’s
not about me. Faith is not about my wisdom (or lack of it), it’s about God’s
power! I can’t muster up any faith at all. Faith isn’t about me being more
wise, it’s about coming to the realization of how trustworthy, powerful,
worthy, and great God ALREADY is.

“Consequently,
faith comes from hearing the message, and
the message is heard through the word of Christ.”

Romans 10:17

Faith
can’t come from me. Faith comes from God. From hearing the message. From
grasping the message. From seeing how BIG our God is. My faith will never
increase from anything I do or think or try to will into existence. But what
I’ve come to realize, is that I don’t really need “big” faith anyways. In
reality, “small” faith can move a mountain. The problem is where I’ve placed
the emphasis…

I
don’t need BIG faith in God. I need faith in a BIG God
!

When
David, a small boy, mustered up the courage to fight Goliath, an experienced
fighter and giant, he had faith that His God would protect him and that he
would win the battle. His faith wasn’t in his quickness, it wasn’t in his
stones, or in any abilities he had. His faith was centered on the fact that he
served a BIG God. He ran into battle with a few stones and no armor, confident
that God would deliver him.

“The
Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear
will deliver me from the hand of the Philistine.”

1 Samuel 17:37

My
faith is a direct reflection of how I see God. The only reason that I see my
faith as small, is because I see God as small.

I
have forgotten the God that I serve.

A God who walks on water.

A God who turns water into wine.

A God who makes the blind see and the crippled
walk.

A God who fed thousands with a basket full of
food.

A God who raises people from the dead.

A God who created this whole world and everything
in it.

I serve a BIG
God.

Lord
help me to remember that….
