I’ve been in Nicaragua for the past month and a half and it’s been so good. We were just outside of one of the big tourist cities, Granada. We were with an organization called REAP. It is a farm that is about a 10 minute drive outside of the city. I really liked this ministry just because of all that it entailed. So at the farm they employed some local women to be cooks so they would cook our meals, so they were really fun to talk to and to get to know and they would also bring their kids. So from the beginning there was this one kid that I really liked his name is Issac, in Spanish it’s pronounced like “esuak”. On one of our first nights I played basketball with him so we were a team. From that point on he called me equipo, which is team in Spanish. So he was my teammate no matter what was going on i was always his equipo. So every time that he saw me he would yell “equipo” and I would just smile and come up to him. And it kind of makes me think of God, like he is on our team and we don’t have to doubt that. He will always love us and fight for us, but he has chosen us to be part of his team, and he wants to use us. So God is like the main player that actually does the work but he wants to use us to be a tool in that. So just remember God is in your team loving you and fighting for you, as long as you choose to be in his team. At any point Issac could have chosen to stop calling me equipo and just call me Christian, but he wanted me to be that teammate and chose to keep that. We also have that choice, do we want to be on the team or do we not. Do we want to have God fighting for us or do we want to try to take on life on our own. Whenever me and Issac would play basketball he couldn’t really make a shot because he was so small and young, but I would still give him the ball. I wanted him to be a part of the team and it be us together doing it not just me. Where God could just do everything on his own if he wanted, he calls us into it. Because let’s be honest here it is not anything that we do ourselves that bring forth any kind of progression of the kingdom. It’s all God and through God in our lives. So join the team and quit choosing to ride the bench. We can make ourselves unavailable to be used by God but not paying attention to his voice. In basketball if a person never looks to where the ball is or where their voice is being called they won’t get the ball. It’s the same with us. If we choose to get caught up in our own busyness and not listen to God or see the opportunities he is giving us we will miss those opportunities. So ask God where he wants to use you today and how you can be a light to someone around you today. Just listen for the call of God and take your shot. It’s all one him he just chooses to use us as his tool.
