One of the things I so value about my Chilean Mom is the wise words she has spoken into my life. She tells us that she knows we won’t always stay in contact, but her wish is that we will always remember her and the words she has told us.
Her life has not been easy. She had told me so much of her life story, and by the grace of God I have understood most of it(she only speaks Spanish)! What a joy it has been being apart of her life. She has know loss, abandonment, anger, pain, and confusion, yet still she chooses to have faith in God, she chooses hope, she chooses joy, she chooses love. She knows that God allowed hard things to happened that she will never understand, but she trusts his plan and his timing. She has experienced God, and she lives her life sharing that.

Just a few of the lessons I have learned from my Chilean Mom:
“When you face challenging times, you have a choice. You can either have faith and run towards God in trust, or you can turn away from God in anger”
“When hard times happened, don’t ever think God has abandoned you. God is so close to us in those times.”
“You have three big decisions in your life: to accept Christ into your life, who you will marry, and your career.”
“It’s hard being away for the holidays, but this a great opportunity to value your family more. When they are always there, you don’t really care as much, but when they aren’t, you realize how much you love them. When there is an ocean between you, you realize how you can change to better serve and love them”
“Joshua 1:9. Be strong and courageous, do not be discouraged, the lord IS with you”

(These quotes are not direct. They are translated by me from Spanish to English)

This woman has taught me how to set the table the Chilean way, make a bed perfectly (she irons the sheets HAHAHAHA!!), cook rice, speak Spanish better, love better, serve better, share better.

I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to have gotten to be apart of her life, what an amazing woman!
