Training camp, Day 2:  A-Squad Dance-Off

Guys, I like dancing.  I mean I really, really like dancing.  Clearly I am not good at it but I definitely think it’s a complete blast, I don’t mind looking like a complete idiot, and I like dancing with people who feel the same way.  Much to my great JOY, the second afternoon of training camp brought about the A-Squad Dance Off.

To begin, we split the squad up into 4 groups (group 1, group 2, etc.).   Then, groups 1 and 2 faced off in a group dance.  The judges were our squad leaders and squad trainers (which included my best buddy Daniel Stinson).  After the first group dance-off, the judges were unable to conclude on who the true winner was and were forced to go to a tie-breaker round:  1 person from each of the two groups had to hit the floor for a final face-off to determine the winner.

I was in group 4.  After the winner of groups 1 and 2 was determined, our side of the bracket hit the dance floor.  We our group had some pretty amazing dance moves including the “tigerâ€, the “dinosaurâ€, the “carouselâ€ and many others which don’t exactly have names.  Even though we performed INCREDIBLY, the judges were unable to determine a victor from seeing only the group dances and were forced to take this round to a 1 on 1 tie breaker as well.

Our trainer Dan was in charge of the microphone and thus, of voicing the opinion of the judges.  His voice rang out clear:  “The judges have decided that we need to see a BOOTY-OFF between Layne and CHRISTIAN.â€  Oh man!  Not just a 1 on 1 dance off.  A BOOTY-OFF!!!

Now, there’s something that you may or may not know about me.  My hips are EXTREMELY honest.  They don’t lie.  Christian’s hips don’t lie.  I realized in the instant that Dan said my name that I wasn’t going to be able to go half-hearted on this one.  My hips aren’t ok with that kind of pseudo-honesty.  These hips were going to take me to utter absurdity in front of a group of people I really didn’t know well.  C’est la vie.  Such is life.  The following is a video of the dance-off.  Layne and I broke it down like only two lanky white kids can.

Two things I would love for you to take note of during this video because I think they’re hilarious.  Firstly, watch Danny Stinson in the background.  He’s my buddy and he’s the one wearing the plaid shirt with the hat on.  Also watch my Squad Leader Phillip who is wearing the neon yellow shirt.  At one point Phillip’s instinct tells him to turn and walk away but his head tells him “I WANT TO SEE MORE OF THESE TWO DUDESâ€ and so he turns back towards us.

The other thing you need to “watchâ€ is more something you need to “listen forâ€.  Between about 11 and 15 seconds of this video, you will hear a girl laughing in the background.  That is Miss Carly.  She is hilarious and her laugh in this video makes me laugh SO HARD.  It’s almost more of a cackle really.  Haha love ya Carly. 🙂

It was also awesome that after the whole dance-off was over, over half of our squad stuck around and had one of the more epic dance parties that I’ve been a part of in my life.  It was awesome and lasted at least another hour and a half (I’m trying to be conservative…I really think it might have been over 2 hours).  It got me SOOO excited for this group of people.  Having people who enjoy the random dance parties is going to have a very positive impact on my year methinks (meknows).

OK, hope you guys enjoyed.  Love you all.
