Have you ever been treated like royalty? Where you feel like you are the most important person in the whole entire world? I have. This year while I have been living in third world countries, I have been treated like a queen.
I left America expecting to serve the people of the world who have less than me and that has happened. I have physically served people who have live on less than I do in America and who have less material items than me. However, the people I have met in these countries have something else that most Americans don’t have. They have hearts to serve their guests like royalty.
Currently, I am in a small village in northern Moldova and have been shucking corn for the last 2 weeks. We typically shuck corn in the mornings and then are treated to homemade lunch as a thank you. Our meals sometimes consist of homemade soup and bread, a main meal with meat and cake typically for dessert. They use their nicest dishes and cups and serve wine or some sort of alcohol with all of our meals as a thank you.
If you saw the houses these people lived in,most of you wouldn’t know how to survive. No central heat, outhouse out back, and only a few rooms for the entire family, but they have the biggest hearts I have ever seen. This has not been just a thing in Moldova, but a mindset I have seen the entire year.
When I get home, I want to treat people like royalty. I want to take out the nice dishes (seriously, what kind of event are we waiting to use those dishes for anyways?) and take out the nice glasses. I want to cook more food than people are able to eat and treat them to a fancy dessert made from scratch. I have never felt more special and I want to be able to do this as well.
I want to challenge you. When was the last time you made someone feel so special? Maybe today is the day to think of the ones you love and how you can serve and honor them in new ways. I will thank you when I get back by inviting you over for some homemade Thai pad thai or Moldovan Borscht (homemade beet soup).
