Hello Everyone!! I wanted to take this moment to share with all of you the traveling journey from The Dominican Republic to Haiti. 28 of our 74 squad members loaded on a bus and headed to Haiti. There were 3 fewer seats than people on the bus. It was truly the first of many adventures on the World Race. Our travel day added up to approximately 9 ½ hours. In the next few sentences I am going to attempt to paint you all a picture. Just keep in mind that God truly took care of us and we arrived to our destination safely. We drove through a rain storm and the roof of the bus leaked and then our brakes stopped working and we had to pull off and get the brakes fixed. I have to say the hospitality shown to us in this town was amazing, these people opened up their homes to us like we were family. Then we figured out that we were traveling with an infestation of cockroaches along the way. I almost forgot that the bus also had pepto-bismol pink curtains with white fringe ( I need to let you know the curtains are what we used to catch the rain water from the roof). Then we arrived at the Haitian border and were surrounded by vendors and taxis that wanted us to buy stuff and use their services. Our bus driver’s famous words, “Stay on the bus.â€ So of course we listened. Then I had to go in and exchange pesos for Haitian Gourdes and this process was very anxiety provoking. There were several men attempting to exchange money in this open room. Anyway I got out with our money. Then we arrived at a compound where we spent the night and dinner was waiting on us when we arrived. We all slept out on the roof overlooking the beautiful water and rich mountains of Haiti. On Saturday we traveled to Canaan, a home for 60 children. Here we are living with the children in their dorms and being positive role models for them. They are currently in summer school and we are going to help them with their English and other school subjects. One of my assignments that I am so excited about is organizing their library so that they are able to find their books. When we get this accomplished I will be provide before and after pictures!! It is going to be amazing, I love to organize things!! God is so present in my life! These children are wonderful children of God, they are welcoming and truly feel that we are their family and we have barely been here for 24 hours. Please pray that God will use our team to show his unconditional love as well as make a lasting impact on the lives here at Canaan. I love and miss you all!!
