October 10
Three days in Guatemala and I’m still trying to wrap my head around this whole trip. For the past three days my squad has been living together in Antigua, Guatemala going through what AIM refers to as Launch. We spend our days listening to teachings from the AIM staff, cooking meals with our teams and learning to live life together. We are split between two hostels right across the street from one another. We have been so blessed by the people of this city and the accommodations we’ve been given. Showers, beds, kitchens and Internet access are all available to us. Tomorrow is our last day as a squad in Antigua. Although my team will be staying in Antigua to work with Hope Haven Guatemala, several other teams are heading to different Guatemalan cities to begin their work.
On our last day of launch our whole squad traveled by bus to hike the Volcan de Pacaya. High elevation, non-stop rain and loose rocks made for quite the strenuous hike, but the view at the top was well worth it. We roasted marshmellows on top of the volcano, ventured into a cave that might as well have been a sauna and took in God's beautiful creations.
It’s amazing how much God has already been working in our squad. Raw emotions have been shown, walls are coming down and love is taking over. Don’t get me wrong, we still have a long way to go and I’m not necessarily looking forward to the messy parts of living in community, but if God continues to show up (and I know that He will), it’s going to get pretty interesting.
