Jesus says we will do greater things than he did.
He calls us to love the widows and the orphans–to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to heal the sick, resurrect the dead, take care of the needy.
He calls us to be like the Samaritan (and not like the religious people).
He calls us to live humbly and meet the needs of others.
He asks us to carry each other’s burdens, and love others as greater than ourselves.
He even tells us to delight in trials and hardships, and that our lives will not be easy.
So why is it that so many of us sit on the sidelines of His will, contemplating our involvement.
Should I do this; Am I called to do that; Does he want me here; Etc Etc.
It is simple really–If you want to know what God’s will is for your life, read the Gospels. If you want to know your calling and what it looks like, look at Jesus.
Stop using christian cliches as cop-outs.
“Preach the Gospel–use words if necessary”. Great idea, but that is no excuse to avoid sharing the gospel.
“Everything in its season”, is biblical, but not as a means of shirking our calling as a christian. Too often do we turn this into “I’ll submit–I’ll give–I’ll obey–I’ll go–I’ll Love–later. Now isn’t the season”. That is such a wrong mindset.
Cliches, adages and common beliefs about Jesus do not override the mandates of Jesus.
So why do we let them? Why are we so often content to watch other Christians doing God’s will, but never get involved ourself? What is holding us back?
Because ultimately, he brought dead folks to life; he walked on water; he performed miracles; he healed the sick; he loved the unlovely; he set the example; And he not only called us to, but also said we will do greater things than that!
So, what is your excuse?
