Dear Family and Friends,
I am excited to inform all of you about the many adventures that I am currently involved in. I recently officially graduated from Liberty University with an undergrad in Sports Management and a minor in Youth Ministry. I am now working at a Christian Youth Camp called the Master’s Inn as the Director of the Support Staff/Operations. I recently returned from a mission’s trip to Guatemala in which the Lord used to increase my passion about the poor and the lost, as well as, to prepare my heart and mind for future ministry all around the world.
I am so incredibly excited to tell all of you that I have been accepted by the mission’s organization, Adventures in Missions, to join them on a year-long missions trip called the World Race beginning in January 2009. On this trip, we have the amazing opportunity to travel to 11 countries in 11 months being the hands and feet of Christ. We will be full-time missionaries who have the privilege to minister in a variety of ways such as: youth ministry in the villages and cities, Vacation Bible School, prison-ministry, caring for orphans, feeding the hungry, building churches, and many more. Throughout this trip, I will be living in churches, tents, and villages within the community we are ministering. I will be surrounded by a core group of teammates who will help disciple and encourage me to go deeper in my relationship with Christ. Prior to leaving the country I will undergo training and discipleship through AIM’s direction.
Growing up in a Christian family and Christian schools, it is easy to know all the right things, but truly living them out every day is quite another story. It wasn’t until mid-way through my college career that I realized I had been heading down a path of destruction, pain, and heart-ache. I had accepted Christ when I was young. I grew up going to church, and I attended a Christian school my whole life, but I was still a baby Christian. I lacked direction, discipleship, and purpose. I grew sick of the life I was living; I was desperate for change. I began taking the time to fill my heart and mind with the Word of God, growing and learning the Truth. I began praying throughout the day for His Holy Spirit’s power to overcome obstacles and habits that I had put in my life. I have been striving to live for Christ in all that I do since. I still fail, but I know who is faithful to always pick me up.
Because I want to be like Christ, my heart and my perspective have changed. Although I had never thought of being involved in a year-long mission’s trip, the opportunity presented itself, and it blew me away. The Lord aroused an excitement and passion in my heart to minister and serve others. I truly believe the World Race will change my life forever. It will change my perspective on the world as a whole and the universal need for a Savior, and it will equip and prepare me for any ministry the Lord leads me to in the future.
I would like to invite all of you to share in this journey with me. Throughout the trip, I will have an interactive personal blog in which my team and I will share about all we experience. I would love many of you to commit to praying for me and my team from now until we return. The cost of the trip is approximately $14,000 which will include all transportation, food, and lodging throughout the race. I will also need to raise funds for things such as: visas, international medical insurance, vaccinations, gear (tent, back-pack, clothing), and travel to the race start point. Money can be received in one time gifts and monthly pledges. If I have 3 people giving $200 monthly for 10 months, 10 giving $100 monthly for 10 months, and 5 giving $50 monthly for 10 months then all my cost will be covered. Any help no matter the amount or method is greatly appreciated.
I have enclosed a response card and pre-addressed envelope, which invites you to share in this ministry. Please make checks payable to Adventures In Missions. You may write “appealed by” and my name in the memo section of the check if you wish. All donations should be mailed to Adventures in Missions, P.O. Box 534470, Atlanta, GA 30353-4470. Including the enclosed card will provide AIM with all necessary information. Adventures in Missions is registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Donors will receive receipts for their gifts with the understanding that the disbursement of those gifts lies completely at the discretion of Adventures in Missions and that the gifts are non-refundable and non-transferable, per IRS regulations. Gifts may be tax deductible; please consult your tax advisor. You can also donate online through my blog.
I am extremely excited to see how God will mold me during the next year through my experience with the World Race. I hope to be a blessing, not only to those I serve, but to you as well. Please prayerfully consider supporting me on my journey.
Will you join me on the race?
God Bless,
Chris Scott
