Many times when you enter a foreign country it is expected that the people who live there will spot you like a light in a dark room. I originally thought this was generally applicable to large group of Americans in Thailand. But, it has been proven that there is a better way to stick out in Thailand.

As you probably know… I am 6’6â€. I am caucasian. And as of MANistry month… I have a mohawk. I am likely to be voted “Most Likely to Stick Out Like a Sore Thumbâ€.

As I took a lovely night stroll down the street from the internet place to the TESCO grocery store, something out of the usual happened. I left the internet 50 minutes before meeting time at TESCO, as there is only so much internet one can do without having blogs or emails prewritten. 3 squad mates stayed behind to finish up the last of there online duties.

As I walked along the uneven sidewalk, the usual transport vehicles would slow down to try and offer a ride. I would kindly wave them on, as TESCO wasn’t a far walk. About half way en route I heard a motorcycle/scooter slowing down. As usual I made my way as far off the edge of the sidewalk to make room if he was going to stop/turn there. He ends up beside me, continuing at my walking pace. I knew he was a scooter driver that would offer rides as a small source of income. Before I could wave him on he takes a look at me and says, “Oh My Goodness!, in his thick asian accent, and speeds off. I must say that I thought that would be the most awesome event of my night, but the night was young.

As I arrive at TESCO, I have 35 minutes to do as I please. So I decided to head to the grocery store. I needed some things anyways. As I walk along the front of the grocery store, I began to realize that I was giving hundreds of Thai people a show. I stand 1.5’ higher than most of them, and my mohawk is eye radar. Hilarious! I noticed some Thai’s pull out their cellphones and aim them my direction for a picture. Cheese!

The moral of my story is…

Some of your best moments in life will only involve yourself. But don’t be afraid to share your experiences because you may never know who gets a smile out of it.

I hope this story made you smile!
