As you can see this is an ministry that I firmly stand behind (yes, I’m literally standing behind all of the boys in the above picture). If you ask John he’ll tell you he’s not doing anything great. He’s just a Christian who happens to live in Mozambique who is trying to do what the Bible commands us to do. As I think about Kedesh and all the amazing things that are happening here I also see a great need, and wonder what would it look like if Kedesh had more resources at its disposal. From my observations and conversations with John and Heather, Kedesh needs several things.
Sporting equipment. There is one volleyball that is starting to show some where. There is one good frisbee. There are a few baseball gloves that are falling a part and a softball that just lost it’s cover. Whenever the boys want to play a true baseball game the boys have to go to a neighboring orphanage and borrow their bat.
Tools. Several sets of tools were recently purchased for Kedesh, but they are still in need of more. Imagine all the creation if their were more hammers and nails. Also with the rate at which tools get used their is a pretty high turn over rate. With 30 boys who love to build, I have not seen a day where someone is not building something.
Cooking utensils and tableware. Again, cooking for 30 boys takes quite a toll on cooking utensils and tableware. Yesterday the only skillet just lost its handle and most of the knives couldn’t cut through Jell-o. Spoons and cups are also quite a hot commodity among the boys due to them either got, broken, or lost (these are boys we are talking about).
Money. This is the biggest need of Kedesh. John and Heather do not make it back home very often in order to fund raise. And honestly, as John is a dreamer, fund raising is not one of his forte’s and it doesn’t need to be. John needs to be free to spend time cultivating the boys. John and Heather have huge dreams for Kedesh, but they can’t happen without the appropriate funds. A few upcoming projects are rebuilding the house where Heather lives, as it is quite old and made of mud and bamboo. Another is building a house for the local widows so they may become a part of the Kedesh family. The daily expenses include food, and clothing for the boys. Also since shipping items into Mozambique rather complicated its easier to meet the above needs of sporting equipment and tools by making a monetary donation. Kedesh is not one of those places that you need to worry if your money will be put to good use, I can guarantee that it will be.
If you are interested in supporting Kedesh you can visitwww.kedeshmozambique.com to get more information. Also John keeps a blog at blog.kedeshmozambique.com If you are interested in making a donation towards a specific need such as sporting equipment you can e-mail John at [email protected]. All monetary dentations are tax-deductible. If you have any reservations or further questions about my time at Kedesh please don’t hesitate to contact me as well.
If financially supporting Kedesh is not your thing, I would encourage you to keep John, Heather, and the boys in your prayer. Please pray God would continue to grant John and Heather wisdom as they lead the boys. Also pray that the physical needs of Kedesh would continue to be met.
