One early morning (5:30am) my friend Alyssa decided to lead a bible study for anyone to come to. I immediately said yes because she is probably the wisest person I have ever had the pleasure to meet. So there we were… sitting with our coffee and studying Gods unfailing love for us and His lost children. We were mostly in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

I have read this multiple times and my thoughts are always, “oh yeah thats really sweet… I love love” but I have never really unfolded this passage and asked myself what it really means. We discussed what it says in 1 John 4:8,

“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

Okay now, stick with me here. If God is love, then cant we just replace the word “love” in 1 corinthians 13:4-8 with God? …

“God is patient, God is kind. He does not envy, He does not boast, He is not proud. He does not dishonor others, He is not self-seeking, He is not easily angered, He keeps no record of wrongs. God does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. God never fails.”

When I read that, my perspective on my Father in Heaven, turned upside down. Later that day, God proved His point even further on how He never fails. I was sitting with the same student that I talked about in my last blog. As we were having our daily deep convo, he asked me, “Chloe, what is love?” My mouth dropped, I immediately grabbed my bible and read him the verse above. That truth hit him, hard. He was frustrated though because right now he is confining himself by living his life by sight. He asked me how he is ever supposed to ignore logic and believe in a God.

That’s when the Holy Spirit took over. I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. I drew out a mountain and on the other side of this mountain was a beautiful sea filled with life. I then began to draw two stick figures (This student and I). We were standing on the opposite side of the mountain, dying of thirst. I climbed up to the peak of the mountain and saw the sea! I yelled down to my student and told Him all about the sea on the other side. But his response was, “I cant see it, so I don’t believe its there”. God calls us to live by faith, not by sight -2 corinthians 5:7

In the drawing below you can see that if he would have just taken a couple steps of faith, he would find what he is looking for. In this drawling its the water of life. But for this student, God is trying to show him a love that he has never experienced. God wants to show him his purpose. But thats the thing, God is patient and not proud. He will never push you up that mountain, He gives His children free will. Are you going to live by faith, take that step, and discover His love. Or will will you let your own small understanding, pride, or sight stand in the way of experiencing live to the full?
