This past month in Myanmar was a little different for me and my two besties, Taylor & Breier.
We spent a lot of our month in Yangon city, with our Squad Mentor Alissa & our Alumni Squad Leaders, who have been on the field with us for 5 months and are heading home TODAY!
During our time in the city Breier, Taylor and I were undergoing leadership training, for our new roles as Squad Leaders. Eek. We spent this time running scenarios, learning emergency protocols, talking through some of our own situations so that we could enter this season fully equipped.
After 12 days of this we got to pair up with the alumni leaders and split off to go to different ministry sites and meet up with the teams. I got to go to Team VALOR who were nearby in a local village. Arriving in the village was a breath of fresh air, it genuinely reminded me of some of the places we were in Africa, and the simplicity of that life is something I have craved and missed since leaving it. Who am I, I know.
This ministry entailed us working at multiple different ministry sites, all run by one incredible family.
- Two of the brothers run children homes in their own houses, where they took in local children who had been dropped off at their front door by families or communities who just did not have the resources to look after them. With no questions asked, they bring them in and start feeding them, allowing them rest, educating them and bring them up in a Christian home. They send them to school when school season starts, and give them an incredible chance at life. Each home has around 15 children of all ages.
- One of the brothers heads up running a Bible college close by, where children from ages of 10 and up come for further education and Bible studies. Again at this campus they feed them and some of them live on site.
- Another Bible college is currently being set up by the family which is closer to their local village, and we were able to spend some time painting and redecorating this so it will be ready for opening.
I was blown away by this family. They have literally given up everything to look after the people all around them. They are living as Christians in a country where the largest religious population is Buddhist, with only 8% professing Christians, and 84% of their population being totally unreached by the Gospel.
They are changing lives all around them just by being love.
Month 6 is now upon us, and we are in Kathmandu, Nepal, and we already in love!
This month I am working with High Adventure Ministries, where we get the honour of trekking into the base of the Himalayas and ministering to people who have never heard the name of Jesus. What. A. JOY. We are unbelievably excited to get there! Our first trip is to Chitwan, and then when we are back we will travel to Pokhara and trek for four days from there. Please pray for full health for us all, for our incredible host Deepak, and for people to hear the name of Jesus and it fall on open minds and open hearts.
I will be out of contact for most of this month, but I will be filming and updating when I am back. Let’s go!
Love,
Chloe xo
