The Holy Spirit revealed this to me the other day.  In a moment with Him, He reminded me that his commands and his laws are always meant to keep us safe.  They are meant to be boundaries for us to operate in, that we may live life abundantly, and that we may flourish in who we are, as His beloved children.  So in this time with Him, I felt Him tell me to write the ten commandments through the lens of provision, not restriction.  (sidenote: I'm not intending to rewrite these.  It merely is an exercise in interpreting them through a lens of how the Lord loves us.)

1. You shall have no other gods before me.

You can trust that my order and control of the world and your life is good.  You can have all your needs met in me as God of your life.

2. You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth.  You shall not bow down to them or worship them.

You get to worship the creator, who is better and more wonderful than His creation.  Everything that tempts you to worship it, I will meet that desire so that you can find satisfaction in me.

3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.

My name/my character is powerful, and you can use that to change environments to bring light to the world and to spread love.  You get to use my name intimately when talking to me.

4. Observe the Sabbath by keeping it holy.  On it you shall not do any work.

You get to spend a day, fully resting in my presence.  You can enjoy this day and have a double portion of joy by being recharged in body/soul/mind by me.

5. Honor your father and mother as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

You can learn the beauty of the order of leadership and authority as I designed it by submitting to your parents, and supporting/encouraging up from underneath.  That they may glorify God, that their wisdom may impact your life, and that the Lord my bless your kingdom inheritance.

6. You shall not murder.

You get to marvel at the life that I give and how I uniquely created everyone.  You get to value, love, and encourage them just like I do.

7. You shall not commit adultery.

You get to experience a physical manifestation of the intimacy I designed with your wife/husband that you might give good gifts to each other and experience how I feel about my bride, the Church.  You can find your desires for intimacy, security, and your physical desires met by my provision.  You can experience that what I give to you is infinitely more beautiful and more creative than what you could take for yourself.

8. You shall not steal.

You can experience giving to others and receiving from them.  You get to ask me for the desires of your heart.  It's all mine anyway and I love to give good gifts and provide for my children.

9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

You can feel so safe in me that you only feel the need for truth. You get to speak honestly to bring light to darkness, to prophetically call out my kingdom for people so that you never need to have walls up between you, Me, and others.

10. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.  You shall not set your desire on your neighbor's house or land, his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

You get to experience that my provision is "enough" and satisfies.   You can avoid playing comparison with others because your delight is in me.  And what I give to you is uniquely provided for how I uniquely made you.
