Let me start by introducing myself! My name is Cheyenne Lucky and I’m 20 years old. I currently work as an after school teacher for third to fifth graders. I love my job because I get to make an impact on a personal level with the students and that is the most rewarding feeling. I am a second year student at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Tx. I am majoring in nursing and plan to continue onto becoming a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).
As long as I can remember, I wanted to work in the healthcare field. One summer while attending middle school church camp God spoke to me and said that nursing and medical missions was the calling on my life. About a year after that experience at church camp, I was on a mission trip in Mexico and a local pastor prophesied that he sensed a call on my life to care for people. I knew at that time these two events were not coincidence, but that God was calling out my talents and passions and confirming my future. Nursing is my calling.I realize this career holds huge responsibility but there is also huge opportunity to reach people in a critical time of need. Healing a person physically starts with healing them mentally and spiritually. Without hope within the spirit, the physical cannot begin to heal.
I started my college journey full of ambitions and eager to make new friends. But its been off to a tough start. I have struggled to find friends that have the same morals that I do. I thought that coming to a private Christian college would put me in an environment with people like me. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. I am living for a bigger purpose and not many people my age share that mindset.
I have decided to take a break from school next semester to attend a 3 month long mission trip to Guatemala and Nicaragua with the World Race. This mission trip is targeted to 18-22 year olds. I am hoping to meet and become friends with other Christians my age that have a heart for Christ and sharing His word. I am excited that I have the opportunity to build relationship, love, and serve others for 3 months, completely uninterrupted. I get to not only learn about the cultures and customs of these other countries but I will actually get to live it with them. I am so glad that God has given me this opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ!
