I am in Daegu and I have a very big week/month/year planned! We got to look at houses yesterday, ate local food, and interacted with a few locals. All of this super fun in-processing makes everything ‘World Race’ related feel like it is moving at a snail’s pace. The goals I am trying to accomplish are a little bit overwhelming and they tend to make me a little bit homesick when I begin to wish for a home church to lean on.
One of the many amazing features of World Race is that each group is given it’s own Facebook page so that you can connect with the future members of your squad. During a rough bit of homesickness and wishing I could hang out with my friends at home, a group chat started and the Gap Year racers got to meet each other. Since then, I have met some of the coolest and kindest-hearted people I have ever gotten the chance to meet. Every single person in my squad has reminded me of why I am doing this. They all have their own specific motivators, backgrounds, and personalities, but we understand each other because we share the same purpose. That is what a church is supposed to be. A group of like-minded believers working together to further the same kingdom of the same God. These young adults come from different homes, denominations, lifestyles and cities. But in less than a year, they will be sharing in the same ministry opportunity. In a world that feels so divided, this little World Race Route 2 church is going out to offer our hearts with only one goal in mind: sharing the love of Christ with every single person we meet.
For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
Romans 12:4-5
I’ll be attending my first church service on post tomorrow morning and I am eager to get back into the routine of attending every Sunday, but I could not be more thankful for the church I have become a part of through World Race.
P.S.
I’ve included a song that I think sums up the people on my squad (;
