My team arrived in Nepal and hit the ground running! Our first night of ministry was going to a “dance bar”. Imagine a stage and a lounge where people watch individual girls do provocative music video level dance routines. It sounds like a club, the girls are moderately covered up and nothing looks too scandalous from a Western mindset. However after the bar closes, clients come in for more than dances. These dancers sell their bodies for plenty of reasons but the main one being that they don’t know how to get out for good. I went in with a group of other missionary women and we ordered two cokes. The excitement these young girls had for us was amazing! They sat with us, let us get to know them and were so thrilled to be loved by us. We called them beautiful and invited them to our house today to have a party! One girl in particular (I’ll refer to her as Polly) was attached to my hip all night long. She took a selfie of us on my phone so I could show her to my family. She told me about her life before the bar and asked me about mine! Every time I told Polly that she was beautiful she told me “no, I am not.” At that point I said “Look Polly! We have the same haircut!” She laughed and said “Yes! We are same-same!!!” I begged her to join us at our party and she finally agreed. At this party, we shared the gospel with the girls. I shared my personal testimony on the freedom Christ can bring from addiction, abuse, and self loathing. As soon as I sat down next to my friend Polly, she became very serious and said “We are still same-same. My story is the same as yours.” She told me about her life and pain she’s felt. She talked about how she wants to be happy and she loved hearing that the Lord can bring joy into our hearts! I didn’t see Polly saved today but I did see a woman right on the brink of giving her life to Christ! I have three weeks going to the dance bars and building a friendship with Polly. Pray that the Lord would cultivate, activate and empower his Spirit within the both of us! I know that Jesus can save my friend in a heartbeat. So y’all lift some prayers up right now!
