Hello again!
I’ve started doing the children’s sermon at church on Sunday mornings, and the message really encouraged me! I based it off of what dad preached on (Psalm 121), and while these kids are too young to remember classic Veggie Tales, all I could think of was Junior Asparagus singing “God is bigger than the boogie man!”. I am now 18 years old, and I still sing that little jingle when I have to do the laundry alone in our creepy utility room.
Why has that message remained so encouraging for this long?
Because as silly as it sounds, it is still true!
While the monsters have changed, the message remains the same. I’ve exchanged a fear of monsters on TV with a fear of war, corrupt government, debt, and illness. Instead of fearing the boogie man, we fear our bosses, ex girlfriends, ex boyfriends, and bullies. Godzilla is no longer a legitimate worry, so instead we learned to hate our bodies, our looks, our social standing, our education levels.
The wonderful news? God is bigger than ALL OF IT!
We can’t understand why bad things happen, but we can believe and have faith that God is protecting us from far worse and we have absolutely no reason to fear when our God is so big.
Through this whole entire journey so far, I’ve had highs and lows. I’ve forgotten how big God is. I’ve had days where it felt like the travel plans, graduation, fundraising and personal life were bigger and more powerful than God. It’s my sinful nature to make wordly things seem bigger than our God, and he reminds me every single day that he is still in charge. I’m so grateful for the peace of mind that something as simple as a song from my childhood gives me.
Leave a comment with your own piece of encouragement or let me know how I can be praying for you!
