caught myself today wishing to fast forward through this time of year.
you know, with that remote that also has the big red "easy" button.
i don't think i've ever been a true fan of Halloween.
don't get me wrong. i am all for deeeep discounts on candy.
seeing the color orange everywhere i look actually put a cheesy smile on my face.
and collaborating to best other people's creative costume ideas is just plain fun.
there's no denying that.
but because i am aware that we can be creatures of avoidance, i feel obligated to speak up:

#1 there are Kingdom things to do
#2 the Holy Spirit gets no credit

seriously.

for as long as i can remember,
His Ghost has inhabited the same hallways and bedrooms i traipse through daily.
it really would not throw Him for a loop if i filed for a change of address.
Jesus sent Him. with no return label.
so i finally just asked Him to explore every corner of my heart.
now, without fail, i can't shake him off. can't fake him out.
you will never be haunted by anything more beautiful.

fear is real.
every spider i see is another excuse to call on Jesus.
but that's just me.
you don't need more blood, guts, or anyone to tell me what you did last summer.
this world tries to downplay righteousness and that's getting old.
you need to fear God. and desire His Holy Spirit.
He is bigger than any evil thing you will face in your lifetime. trust me.

and so, like every year,
parades of small kids to young and old adults will stream down my street.
they'll come to heckle quality chocolate treats,
in exchange for not littering in my front yard.
i hope they come prepared for this Spirit.
that's right, i hope they are ready.
wait, what am i saying? the harvest is out there.
as followers of Jesus, are we ready?
my family will be prayed up and finished fasting.
the Spirit falls hard at my house.
He empowers us to walk in authority through Christ.
He tells us the Truth about everything.
at this point, i can't be convinced otherwise.

folks, we should be putting the Enemy, our flesh,
and all things associated, in its place. under our feet.
this Halloween. not next year… tomorrow.

Holy Spirit, come!
do things i cannot explain
for people only He can change.
amen.
