Hey y‘all! My first blog post is here!! Finally!!
During my last month at home leading up to the race, I was working as a nurse tech in a nursing home in my hometown. During this season, I was surprised by how much God taught me through the residents. A lot of times, we tend to think we know more about the particular season we are in than people who have already walked through that season. Over the last two years, God has continued to show me how important it is to accept wisdom from the people who have gone before you. So, when I started working at the nursing home, I didn’t expect to learn much…I was wrong! The older generation has so much wisdom that they are just waiting to impart on younger people.
One of the most powerful things God taught me during my time at the nursing home was to be tender. God shared with me that I am gentle with people, but he was calling me deeper and taking me further. He wanted me to be tender. One night, I was going to help a resident get ready for bed. When I arrived in that resident’s room, they were weeping. They were very upset about some news they found out that was going to drastically change the life they were used to. As the resident was crying, I sat down on the edge of the bed and just rubbed their head. After that experience, I knew what God was trying to teach me. To reach people, I have to be as tender with them as their heart is tender. We encounter broken people every day because we are all broken. In order to show the brokenhearted Christ, we have to be more than gentle, we have to be tender. You could potentially be holding someone’s heart in your hand; so, hold it like Jesus would.
Yesterday was my squad’s first day of ministry. We worked with Hope Church in Romania through an eyeglasses ministry. When we arrived, there was a nurse waiting on our group. She was going to a different location to take blood pressures, and she was looking for someone to take blood pressures at the location I was serving at. I was the only other person there who knew how to take blood pressures. It amazes me how even the little things God is teaching us and training us in will transfer from our daily lives into our callings.
I love y’all! Thank you so much for all of the support financially and spiritually.
