I love learning about languages. It fascinates me to learn how to communicate in different places with different people.
This month we have been in Ghana, Africa. The local language here is Twi. It’s been fun having the locals teach us some phrases as well as share with us what our Twi name is!
In Ghana, you are named after the day of the week you were born on. Simple right? We spend so much time thinking up the perfect name for our babies, when it could be as simple as;“she was born on Friday, so we will name her Friday.” For example, I was born on Friday, so my Twi name, is Afia. (Meaning, Friday born.)
It’s fun to greet people here and find out what there name is. “Oh your born on Friday? Me too!” Basically everyone has a day of the week name. It can get confusing when you approach a group and say “hey Kwasi!” (Masculine for sunday born) and three people respond. ??
I want all my followers to know their Twi name! I have them listed below. There’s a masculine and feminine list, so see what your name is, and write it in the comments so I know too!
