Four months down and only 5 more to go.
As we head into month five we are heading into a new year and a new decade! How crazy is that.
I have been here for a month now and let me catch you up on what has been going on. Well we left Guatemala on December 5th, 2019 which is when we said goodbye to our Alumni team leader Connaly. Since she was only with us for the first three months. It was great to have her with us but it’s been such a great time getting to really spread our wings and fly on our own. We arrived in Ethiopia late on December 7th. We also had a 22 hour layover in New Jersey but we were only like 30 minutes from New York City. You already know that I got a Starbucks while I was in the states but once we landed in Ethiopia. We got all our stuff and we spent the night in a hotel in Addis which is the major city that we are near. We stayed at the best western and it was really nice.
Once we arrived to the base we had an awakening. Which is when 2 squads are in the same country at the same time they will meet up for a few days and spend some time together. We had some teachings, and we worshiped, spent time together it was only for about 3 days.
For ministry here in Ethiopia, we have 2 different ones. We have the morning ministry which is with your team and then we have afternoon ministry which is with different people from other teams. For morning ministry my team has ATL, which is ASK THE LORD. We have done some manual labor, and we have gone house visits, we have made Christmas cards for the kids. In the afternoon there are three different tracks that we could of chosen. House moms and women in the training center, reforestation, and kids. I am on the kids track. For kids track each day we have a different lesson, we do education, music, crafts, life skills, technology, bible, and then we end each day with sports. House moms and women’s in the training center consists of teach English and life skills to training center women for only a half hour. House moms they just hang out and will help with dishes laundry, paint, play games, they’ll just hang out with them. Reforestation consists of watering plants, packing dirt in little plastic sleeves, walk is 45 minutes. Work in garden and cut grass here at the base.
On Fridays we have all squad ministry which is when we will do ministry together. In the morning our main focus is on serving the base. Which is usually cutting grass, picking up trash, and interceding for the base while we are doing these things. In the afternoons we will spend time with the kids. Which can be playing soccer or volleyball with them. It’s really just hanging out and spending time with them. One of the Fridays we had a water day for the kids. Which is where we had water balloons and slip n slide and just let them have fun in the water. Friday nights is also movie night for the kids, which is when the kids will come and watch a movie with us. This past Friday we were able to watch frozen 2, the kids seemed to enjoy it.
