.my apologies. this blog was written, but I have been slow to post it, so the dates are slightly off. enjoy!
One week ago, my team disembarked from a bus that we spent 30+ hours on. We stood in the bus station, gazing around us, the question on each of our hearts “God, where do you want us to go?” We watched the other teams with us excitedly greet their contact or wearily journey off to another long bus ride. We, however, had no place to lay our heads (that we knew of).
After praying, perusing information on the many hostels in the city, and finding WiFi in the bus station—the puzzle pieces began to connect. The hostel we were considering journeying to ended up being the very one our wonderful coordinator back at home had booked us beds in – THEN, it was only a five minute walk from the bus station (a blessing indeed for weary travelers with large backpacks.)
We sank into sleep that night in delight, thanking God for warm beds, hot showers, and cheap hamburgers off the street. We awoke the next morning anticipating how the Lord would direct our steps now that we were in Bolivia.
I could overwhelm you with details about the beautiful mosaic the Lord has been (and continues) creating by revealing pieces of His intended plan to each one of us on the team. We live each day in eager expectancy of what is to come. Tomorrow evening, we leave for Cochabamba (a city about 8 hours southeast of La Paz), but for now, let me fill you in a bit on our past week here in the mountainous city of La Paz.
Upon asking the Lord for direction, the command was clear– “Build a bridge and then cross it.” The meaning of those words was veiled to us, until we began wandering the streets of the city praying along the way. Bolivia, the poorest country in South America, has sidewalks full of beggars—broken, overlooked, unnoticed, fighting to survive each and every day.
We walked. We prayed. Our hearts broke.
The call was clear—“Begin a street ministry.” And, so we did.
Every day for the past week, my team and I have ventured out into the surrounding streets of the department we are living in. We buy bread to appease hunger, we sit next to people to break through loneliness, we pray to heal, and we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to transform lives.
And the light of Christ breaks through the darkness as we walk these streets.
All Glory to Him.
.we are currently in Cochabamba, Bolivia. stay tuned for an update detailing what the Lord is doing here with us!
