What is the World Race?
The World Race is an 11-month long mission trip. During that time, I will go to 11 different countries, one each month.
It isn’t like the Amazing Race. I’m not competing, and I won’t be on TV. In fact, there is no racing or running involved!
Do I go with a church?
Is this a medical trip?
The World Race is not a medical trip. There may be an opportunity to do something medical, but there is no guarantee of that.
What will you be doing?
The purpose of this trip is spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to people all over the world. This can be done in many ways. We will work in orphanages and with churches. We will preach and lead worship. We will work with homeless people. We will teach English in schools. We will lead sports ministries. We will work with victims of sex trafficking and people in gangs. No matter what we are doing, we will love on people and show them the hope that a relationship with Jesus can give them.
Where will you go?
I will go to 11 countries. In Central America, I will go to El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In Africa, I will go to Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire (the Ivory Coast). In Asia, I will go to Nepal, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand.
What about your job?
I have been working as a medical-surgical nurse at Trident Medical Center for the past 2 years. My last day was July 1st. They will not be holding my job for me, although it is always a possibility that I may return when I come back. Simply speaking, I have no idea what I will do when I come back. I am trusting that God will lead me where He wants me to go.
Are you going alone?
Oh definitely not! I am on a squad of 25 people (4 guys and 21 girls). They are awesome! ***I wrote a blog about them! You should check it out!*** The squad is divided into 4 teams. My team is 7 girls, including me. We also have two squad leaders, who are alumni Racers. They will be traveling with us for 5 months and going between each of the 4 teams. We also have leaders in the states; we have a squad mentor, a logistics coordinator, and 2 coaches.
What can you take?
I can take a backpack and a daypack. The backpack will go on the airplane, so it can weigh up to 50 pounds. It will definitely not weigh that much, because I have to be able to carry it. I will bring clothes, of course, and toiletries. I do not have to bring a year’s worth of supplies, because I can buy things in the countries that I go.
Where do you stay?
I will be taking a tent, as well as a sleeping pad and bag. Sometimes I will sleep in those. Sometimes we will stay with our hosts or in a hostel or a church.
Do you get paid to go?
This trip is strictly volunteer-based. I have to raise money in order to be able to go, just like most missionaries do. The total cost of the trip is around $17,000.
If you would be interested in donating, you can do so on my blog! Any amount helps!
