So, if you read my last blog, you know that I met a guy named D on the island who I had begun to build a friendship with. (If you haven’t read it, go check it out!!!) I had tried to talk about what we each believed, but it definitely could have gone better. Despite the very awkward ending to that conversation, we still continued to build a friendship!
One day, he came over to my table, where I was sitting alone, and he sat down and we began talking. I brought up the subject of religion again, a little more gracefully this time because it pertained to an upcoming muslim holiday. I asked some questions about the holiday, and I also dug deeper into his actual beliefs about going to heaven. This time, he also asked me a question! He asked if I knew if I was going to heaven, and so I got to share that yes, I was absolutely certain of that fact and WHY! I was able to share the Gospel with him!!! I went on to tell him about the Bible app and about reading the Gospels, and I don’t know if he ever will. He didn’t ask any more questions that day, and we never talked much about religion in any of our conversations that followed. In fact, I didn’t even get his email address or Facebook before he left the island, so essentially that could be the last I ever see or hear from him. He may never become a Christian…or maybe he will! Maybe the awkward conversation I initially had with him or the second (much smoother) conversation we had will spark something in him, a desire for something different and greater and based on faith and not works. I know God works in powerful ways, and I know that meeting D was no accident. I am just thankful that I obeyed that initial nudge to talk to a perfect stranger, and that we ended up having multiple conversations about a ton of different stuff, including how Jesus wants a relationship with each of us!
P.S. I got his contact info (WOO HOO!), so I am hoping to continue talking with him and encouraging him! I would love it if you would join me in praying for D and any future conversations we may have!
