Hello everyone!
This coming Tuesday is my birthday! I’ll be turning 19-years-old (last teenage year woot!). As I will not have wifi here until the day after my birthday, I’m writing this blog out now.
I’ve had an amazing past year. I was finally put in shows at school, I got put into a friend group that I absolutely love and miss a lot, I graduated high school, got to spend almost every Sunday worshipping in Waumba Land, got my first and second tattoo (may or may not have gotten a third today, sorry Mum), and started this crazy World Race adventure. I’ve had a really great year overall and am excited that I get to start this next year of my life in Guatemala!
I am also sad, however. Not spending my birthday with my family I think is going to be really hard on me. I have the privilege of being in a family that’s close and I miss them greatly (even my sisters, weird right?). So not being around them is going to be a bit hard, but I think it’s normal. Not having my Mum come wake me up with a hug, or watching my favorite movies for the millionth time, or doing an encouragement circle (an Adamson family birthday tradition), and going out to whatever restaurant I want or cooking my favorite food, is going to be weird. But I have my amazing team and I know they’ll make it a special day, it’s just very different. I’m grateful I’ll get to serve for my birthday as well as lead worship for my squad in the morning. I won’t get to be in Bola de Oro but I’ll be teaching english in Chimal which I have found out I love to do. The kids we serve in Bola de Oro seem somewhat excited for my birthday. They’ve already sung “Happy Birthday” to me haha!
The day after my birthday we also have debrief which should be fun. It’s basically a vacation for the squad where we also get to talk through everything we’ve experienced so far and just chill.
I’m hoping I’ll get to talk to my parents and friends soon after I turn 19. Here’s hoping!
