Born to lowly share cropping beet farmers in the Amish country of greater San Antonio, Chelsea’s early life was filled with training the family Chihuahuas to serve as rescue dogs for the little folk in ski country. Her rescue organization became known as, “Hughes-ton we have a problem”. She enjoyed a brief stint as a child actor when she was cast in a commercial for a new ADHD medication where she developed her famous tagline, “Look, a kitty!” After a brief stay at the Metropolitan High School for Interpretive Dance which came to an end after a tragic poptart-fueled toaster fire, Chelsea enrolled in Culinary Arts school in an attempt to discover the elusive recipe for making ice. During her time at Platt College she became the foremost authority on the preparation of Kraft Mac and Cheese in all of the Midwest. In recent years she has developed an allergy to sleeping inside, therefore she has committed to the World Race where she will travel and sleep in a tent for 11 months.

Seriously though,  I was born in San Antonio, TX and raised in Kansas and Oklahoma. My dad is a pastor and my mom is a superhero, but her day job is as a mild-mannered administrative assistant. I have one biological brother, Bobby Hughes, my Big Tuna and the best friend a girl could have. I am going to miss frolicking through glorious meadows and swashbuckling around town with that kid while I’m away. Since my parents take in children like most people take in stray puppies I also have at least 8 siblings of the heart. I am very close to my family and have been blessed with great, godly grandparents on both sides of my family. My Mawmaw and Pawpaw Hughes now live with my parents and it’s nice to see the whole family when I get to go home. My Aunt Chelle and Uncle Mike live just an hour away from my parents and I love spending time with my beautiful cousins, Ryann and Reagan. There is so much more I could say about my family…but let’s not get sappy =]
This is my family (a great pic taken by the awesome roommate)

I enjoy sports of all kinds. I love to play basketball and volleyball, watching football is my favorite, and I’m trying to improve my ultimate frisbee skills. Some of my best memories and most lasting friendships have come through my years of playing high school and collegiate basketball and volleyball. (Here is where my father would like me to share my stats and accomplishments…but I’m sure he will take care of that in the comment section…so I’ll move on.) God used basketball to allow me to go on my very first missions trip to Holland when I was 15 and basketball has played a role in all of my missions work up to this point. I have been to the Philippines with my Dad and my Grandpa twice(2003,2006) and last summer, after graduating from Baptist Bible College with my degree in business, I spent six weeks in the Philippines and ten weeks in China working with several ministries and hosting basketball camps. When I left in May, I was a business major who was giving God four months of her life, but when I returned in September I was a broken and surrendered missionary-in-training.

Since that time I have been living in Amarillo, TX.
I live with my best friend and roommate from college, Brandi Galarza. We met at college and I followed her back home to Amarillo. She is amazing and actually came to visit me in China last year! I love her and am going to miss her like crazy…despite the fact that she is a texas fan…we all have our flaws I guess. We are polar opposites as you can tell from the following pics, but somehow we make it work…

These pics were taken on the same day, right after one another…so yeah, I’m a bit more messy than my roommate..but these were taken in college…although not much has changed, I just have less stuff to make messes with…

I don’t butter my rolls or put ice in my drinks, and for that I’ve been labeled a “yankee”. I carry a green backpack everywhere I go, because purses are overrated. I wear rainboots without cause and I rarely match. I enjoy singing loudly in public and spontaneous dance parties. I am never without a book and I love watching Korean dramas. I am a personal assistant to a business man that keeps me on my toes with the most random, sometimes frustrating, but always unique tasks. God has opened the door for me to participate in the World Race and I am so excited to begin this journey and to share it with all of you.
