THAILAND | Phuket
Well after a short flight over the border we made it to the beautiful country of Thailand. Honestly it is the most beautiful place we have been to yet. We are staying at SHE ministries and I am up on the third floor with these gorgeous views of the countryside. Our windows are always open to catch the breezes that come off the hillsides. Oh and did I mention there are beautiful beaches everywhere?
What a beautiful place God created, with its tropical weather, rolling hills, and crystal blue water, and how we as man have made his creation into a playground for earthly pleasures and desires – the heaviness of darkness invading every peaceful nook. One place in particular, Patong, is what our ministry contact calls “the pit of hell,” and I can’t disagree.
Besides the materialistic nature of the area, Satan’s fists hold tightly to the lustful desires of all who come near the over 200 bars in the area. Alcohol and drugs are the norm, most likely to dull any emotions felt or drain out the darkness from their pasts.
Every other night I walk with three other squad members, talking to all those who will allow. Sharing stories over silly children’s games of jenga and connect four, trying to be a friend when everyone else wants more.
On the nights we don’t go out, we stay with all the others on the second floor of our house, crying out to our God on behalf of those that walk the streets. Interceding with prayer, worship, dance, and art. More tiring than actually walking the streets, we take the burden of all those that leave.
After a long night of bar ministry or intercession, we hit our pillows hard, only to wake up early trying to arrange meeting times with girls we met the night before for lunch, pouring into the Thai women already at SHE or working hard preparing the land for another SHE ministry to be built.
I survive only on the energy that God has given me and the passion I have for the Thai women that are so lost. Everyday they need your prayers and mine. Prayers of protection, love, hope, joy, and for their eyes to be open to acknowledge the creator of the beautiful world around them. God has such a wonderful plan for their lives, they just need to be told.
Please, join our squad in praying for these women, especially around the hours of 9-1 which are your afternoon hours.
