THE PHILIPPINES | Malaybalay

Wednesday I got to go to my first feeding at a nearby school. I really didn’t know what to expect, but I was so excited regardless. We loaded the car with two huge containers of precooked “Kids against Hunger” food for 150 kids and Tara, Leslie, Clint, Theresa, and I were on our way. About twenty minutes later we arrived to what looked like a Dharma camp from LOST and saw hundreds of children running inside and coming out with bowls and spoons. As we quickly got out of the car, they began to line up single file with their utensils.

Jeremy, the head of the children’s home at KIM in Malaybalay, began speaking with the teachers and found out that someone had told us the wrong number and instead of 150 kids there were actually 450! Concerned, he came to us and just asked us to make sure that we rationed so that all the kids would at least get something.

But, honestly, how can you tell a seven year old boy that we can only give him half a bowl instead of a full one when this is probably the only meal for the day? So we decided that we would pray. I mean God fed the 5,000 with just a few pieces of bread and some fish, why couldn’t He feed a school with two tubs of stew? So, after praying for the food we decided we not only would not ration the food but would fill their plates, tubs, jars, or whatever they had to the brim.

With God’s covering we began. Filling each plate, and blessing each child. And not only did we have enough for each child to have a heaping portion, we had more for some to have seconds! Praise the Lord for His provision, praise Him because He not only fills our cup but makes it runneth over. Praise be to our God, who provides all we need!
