Hi everyone!  My name is Chelsea Greenwood, and I am so excited to be part of World Race!  My roommate Jess told me to use more colors in my blog.  And so, in Technicolor, I am introducing myself, in the form of a list:

  1. My middle name is Margaret, after my mom's mom.
  2. I am from Puyallup, Washington (“pew-AL-uhp”), a town near Seattle in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.  That's where I am now.
  3. I went to Lutheran schools from preschool and all through high school.  My high school, Mount Rainier Lutheran, is a very special, and small, place: my graduating class had 17 people in it!
  4. For the last four years I've lived in Poughkeepsie, New York (“puh-KIP-see”), where I studied at Vassar College.  I graduated with a major in Religion (which focuses on world religions and the concept of "religion" in general) and a minor in Greek and Roman Studies (I got to read a lot of Greek and Latin).
  5. I live with my mom, dad, brother, sister, two dogs, and one cat.  I enjoy all of them.  All of them except my apathetic cat have always been supportive and encouraging, and I'm blessed to have them be part of this adventure.
  6. I work at a cucumber farm.  I am a cashier and I get to be outside with fresh produce and nice people all day.  Yeah, it's great.
  7. In college, I interned for a local Benedictine monk from France, Brother Victor, who is famous for his homemade artisanal vinegar and cookbooks.  Hanging out with him, eating his cooking, working in the garden, getting butted by the sheep, praying, and building a chicken coop are some of my favorite college memories.
  8. I am passionate about theater.  If I had to choose a forever-career right now, I'd choose to do something with acting or music.  I was last scene (get it?) in a production of Shakespeare's As You Like It, as Dukes Frederick (the bad guy) and Senior (the good guy).  In school I also started playing piano for musicals, which is a huge challenge and incredibly rewarding.
  9. I've played piano since I was 6.  I've also attempted to learn guitar, mandolin, harmonica, penny whistle, djembe, spoons, and clarinet.  If any of my fellow racers want to teach me these instruments, I am so on board.
  10. I love languages.  I've studied Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, and there are few things more interesting or satisfying than reading and translating ancient poetry or Bible passages.
  11. I only learned how to swim in college, when I took the hardest class ever, Beginning Swimming II, where I had to do the crawl for laps and laps, and learn to dive, and participate in Friday Frolics, which featured water polo with life vests and Survival Day.
  12. I have two creases in my left elbow.  My mom does too.
  13. I've been on a game show.  Last year my dad, his three sisters, and I were contestants on Family Feud.  We lost.  But never fear, because due to a minor breach of the rules on the part of the opposing team, we were invited back to film yet ANOTHER episode this summer.  Stay tuned for the thrilling results this fall.
  14. I've been a Christian for as long as I can remember, but still, I am always learning and forgetting what that means, and doubting and trusting that God is there, and chickening out of and diving into (because I passed swimming [see 10]) a life of following Jesus.

Well, that about covers it.

Just kidding.  I probably missed a few details.  Comment or email with further questions!
