It’s about that time for an update!
Well. We arrived in Thailand last week after quite the journey here. It took a 15 hour airplane ride and a 13 hour bus ride but we made it all in one piece. We have had “launch week” all week, so all 44 of our squad has been gathered in Phuket, Thailand just worshipping and preparing ourselves for the year that is ahead of us. Yesterday, all the teams left for their different ministry locations. One team headed to northern Thailand, and four other teams are on their way to Northeast Thailand. They are all on at least 20 hour bus rides, and we are going to the beach today! Haha sorry guys. My ipod was stolen the second day we got here! Which I guess is a good thing because my Ipod was my life. I might just be better of without out! (except for on those long 16 hour bus rides)
My team and one other team stayed behind in Phuket. We will be working and staying with a ministry called SHE ministries. Most of our time will be spent in the red light district of Phuket in brothels and bars. SHE (Self Help and Empowerment) is a Christian charity committed to helping women and children at risk in Thailand, many of whom are trapped in the commercial sex trade. SHE is dedicated to providing employment, vocational training and counseling for women who want to help themselves out of this industry. You can check out their website at www.shethailand.org.
Last night, we spent an hour or two behind the house just playing with some of the local kids. And I seriously have never loved anything more in my entire life! I had no clue what any of them were saying (the language barrier makes it a bit more difficult), but their smiles are so genuine and real. Their joy is pure. And it is so contagious!
This afternoon we walked around some of the bars we will be working in. tonight we go back for ministry, prayers are greatly appreciated! I’m not quite sure what to expect yet. I am a very excited nervous. My prayer is that God breaks my heart for what breaks His. That these women and children that are crying out for help will be heard. That we can become their sunshine and hope. That they realize they are ROYALTY. And have been set free.
Thank you so much for the prayers! It truly is the one thing I need most right now!
