Blog prompt:
“post your favorite picture or video from the race”
I can’t just pick one. Asking me to pick just one is like asking a fish to climb a tree. I have many favorite pictures, but for all different reasons, and I’ll explain why.
This is one of my favorite pictures, on and off the race.
I was supposed to have already been in LA for about a day before I left for Cambodia, but thanks to the Mexican airport and a huge thunderstorm that didn’t happen. It was around 3am when we were told they had found us another flight to LA and that we needed to check our bags in and hurry. Once I got to the check in stand they handed me two tickets. The man said “the one on the top is for Dallas, Texas and the one on the bottom is for LA. Dallas, Texas will be your connecting flight to LA. Have a safe flight.”I began to get excited because my dad works at the DFW airport as the Sergeant of K-9. I hadn’t seen him in over 6 months and was sad he couldn’t make it to my PVT. I texted him that I would be coming through around 9am, only problem is, he works nights so he was asleep when I texted him. With my fingers crossed I prayed that I would get to see him and his new dog.
9:45am I walked up to my gate to see my dad waiting for me. I’m so thankful for this man I get to call my father.
I love this picture because I didn’t care about what I looked like, or the fact that I was weeping in front of everyone. It wasn’t until I was on the plane that one of my teammates told me they had gotten some pictures of me and my dad when I first saw him.
This is one of the few pictures I have from ministry.
I love this picture because it represents a bunch of kids gathered together to play a sport they all love. I love that in this picture you can’t tell the difference between poor and rich. Best player vs the not so great player. Everyone is seen as an equal, yet set apart in their own unique way. Not one is dressed like the other, yeah they might not have the money for team uniforms so that they can all match, but I like that better. It’s not about fancy outfits and money that make them a team. It’s about joy, participation, discipline, and playfulness that makes this group of kids a great team.
This is one of my favorite pictures of being caught in the moment.
I love this picture because I was so caught up in the moment of playing with these kids that I wasn’t even aware a teammate of mine was capturing this moment. The little boy to my right is one of the goofiest kids I have ever met. He and I go about our day with weird facial expressions and random tickle fights. The reason I’m holding my stomach is the result of him tickling me and making me laugh.
So you see, I can’t just post one of my favorite pictures. I can however explain why they are some of my favorite memories.
