As a means of sanity on The Race, I have taken to journaling as a means of processing/comic relief/prayer/therapy. I would like to share with you some of the journey God is taking me through, straight from the source.
1. You can identify which teammate is in the bathroom when they urinate.
2. Your preferred mode of transport is hitching a ride on the back of a motorbike through the streets of Kenya.
3. After devouring a meal, your first thought is, "Wait … what'd I just eat?"
4. "Socumawiki" "Chapati" "Ugali" and "Shaorma" are not diseases, they are your main courses.
5. You refer to your malaria pills as your "morning cocktail".
6. You realize your entire outfit you are currently donning was given to you by other people.
7. On multiple occasions you've thought, "Hmm … perhaps I should shower this week …"
8. You've named your parasites before mercilessly killing them with Flagyl.
9. Tea and coffee are your life blood.
10. "Your possie" includes a throng of kids that you've never met before following you around and only uttering the phrase, "Hey Mzungu … how are you how are you?"
11. A stranger's U.S. political views have been explained only using the words "Obama" and "gay".
12. Sleeping in a bed is foreign to you.
13. You think haggling should be an olympic sport.
14. You refer to Central American showers as the "arctic torture chamber".
15. You can smell African B.O. from the other room, and from what they tell us, THEY CAN SMELL US TOO!
Christians should not follow signs. Signs should follow Christians.
Our host was offered 5 cows for her hand in marriage. 1 cow=$20,000… wow…
Boldness is faith in fear. It puts God in His place and us in ours.
"But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior, my God will hear me…" –Micah 7:7
