I was walking around the mall with a couple of friends. I stopped to buy an accessory for my phone and God opened a door for ministry. There were a few stands that sold cell phone accessories, but none caught my attention.
Finally, we found a stand owned by a girl in her late 20’s, her name is Wally. I bought what I needed and she asked me what I was doing in Thailand. I told her that I was on an 11-month mission trip to tell people about Jesus, she said, “Oh.” I asked her is she knew who Jesus was. She didn’t seem to understand. I told her that He is God. She said “Oh yes, Buddha. I go to temple.” We began to have a conversation about her Buddhist beliefs. Wally told me she goes to temple to pray and make offerings and sacrifices.
I told her Christians don’t have to make sacrifices anymore. I proceeded to tell her about the Gospel. I explained how God is Holy and how all we can do to get to Him is believe in the work that Jesus did on the cross. I told her Jesus served as the perfect sacrifice and because of that, we no longer have to make sacrifices. I shared that Jesus bled on the cross for our sins. She kept saying “Wow” when I mentioned Jesus’ name. I tried to explain the difference between Buddha and Jesus.
I learned so much from my conversation with Wally. I learned that people all around me don’t have the right perception of God. I witnessed Satan’s crafty work of confusion as Wally explained her religion to me. AIM taught us that the goal of evangelism is to bring people one step closer to Jesus. I thank God for my encounter with Wally. Most importantly, I hope and pray that the Holy Spirit would open the eyes of her heart to embrace the life-giving truth of Jesus’ work on the cross for her salvation.
