“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.”
“Watch you life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”
– 1 Timothy 4:12,16
My mentor spoke to me very candidly today about these verses from Timothy. I spoke with my Mentor about my image – particularly on social media, and he jumped into scripture and reminded me that I am once again in an Army – God’s Army. And the member’s of God’s Army are careful watched. They have standards and maintain their appearance as ambassadors for Christ. As I explored this verse further through a word study, thanks to my mom’s The STRONGEST NIV Concordance, a few things really sunk in.
- “Example” or Typos (in Greek): a pattern or visual form to be emulated
God has called us to become “visual forms to be emulated.” So when people look at my Facebook page and World Race page over the next year, what message am I sending? Is it Godly or Kingdom oriented? Am I showing people that I’m a visual form to be emulated? Sometimes… but that needs to become part of my thought process. For God has asked for my everything and to place Him first.
- “Faith” or Pistis: Faithfulness with the implication that actions based on trust may follow
When I read this, it is clear that if my behavior is tied to my faith. So, my teammates and I must become “visual forms” of faith-based action. We must step into each country trusting that God will shine through our brokenness and He will be glorified. And in the process, God will redefine each of us – our masculinity and femininity, our sources of comfort, and each of our lives in Christ. Most importantly, it’s about one more word:
- “Save” or Sozo: to rescue, save, deliver; to be in a right relationship with God
On this journey, we are looking for sozo. Each of us have been rescued, but we want to be whole and right with God. During this journey, God willing, we will tell a few of the millions of unreached people in the 10/40 Window that they can have sozo, be rescued, and be right with God.
This is what the World Race 10/40 Expedition is about – bringing the unreached the Good News of sozo through Jesus Christ. Because it is NEWS, and they desperately need to hear it. Will you help us bring the Good News?
Please continue to pray for my team, that we will make the right decisions on how to be ambassadors for Christ! Also, we launch in less than 30 days, please pray God’s promise that he would God before us and wherever we tread He will bring the Kingdom!
