Musings from Mozambique

~  Life can be simple  ~  rain is a necessity, not just a season  ~  I’m gluttonous in many ways  ~  you can choose to live differently  ~  everything is temporary  ~  nothing is certain  ~  hold expectations loosely  ~  you can feel entitled but that doesn’t guarantee anything  ~  I hold too tightly to “my” possessions  ~  I hate mosquitos more than fleas  ~  RA slows me down from doing things I would like to do…the thorn in my flesh  ~  I have a lot to learn  ~  I can go longer than I thought without a shower and really not smell that bad  ~  enjoy God’s blessings and gifts in their season…he gives but he also takes away…praise be to him even when it stings  ~  I can learn a lot from people more selfless than me  ~  I am stopped in my tracks, humbled and speechless when what I consider to be challenging living conditions is someone else’s home  ~  “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.” (James 1:27)  ~  kids in Africa can dance…I can’t!  ~  life is a journey and a gift and I get to choose what I will do with it  ~  simple things make me happy  ~  “When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields and do not pick up what the harvesters drop. Leave it for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am the Lord your God.” (Lev. 23:22)  ~  “You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of complete rest, an official day for holy assembly. It is the Lord’s Sabbath day, and it must be observed wherever you live.” (Lev. 23:3)  ~  “Is there a conflict then between God’s law and God’s promises? Absolutely not! If the law could give us new life, we could be made right with God by obeying it. But the scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ.” (Galatians 3: 21-22)  ~  “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.” (Matthew 5:17-18)  ~  “Well then, if we emphasize faith does this mean we can forget about the law? Of course not! In fact, only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law.” (Romans 3:31)  ~
