“Someone’s Waiting for You,” is a song from the Disney movie, The Rescuers. In the movie, Penny sings this song when she was sad about not being adopted. My brother, Alex along with his friend performed to this song at church one time. Before I left for the race, he moved to Arizona in faith, all by himself. He dared to venture outside of California where he believed the Lord was leading him. Obedience doesn’t mean the road will be easy. In fact, it was heartbreaking hearing him be sad but I believed with all my heart that the Lord did not send him all the way to Scottsdale to be miserable. He has a plan. He has a purpose. Always. I encouraged him with the song from the movie, to “be brave, little one.”

Now that I’m on the field, Alex returns the encouragement. Month 7 has been the toughest month yet. Not my ministry  (that’s been wonderful) but I’ve hit this unexpected slump that my community back home has been able to speak life into. I’ve been feeling homesick and exhausted this month. Thankfully, I was able to FaceTime with Alex before ministry yesterday. Just for a few minutes. “Be brave, middle one.” One line was able to renew my mind. Still working on the physical to follow suit.

Jesus, thank you for this slump.

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11

“It’s okay for other people to encourage you. It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to become undone.” I’ve come to this realization as I’m on the phone with Alex. Sometimes, I put pressure on myself to have it all together but this slump has served as beautiful reminder that I don’t have to be perfect.

As I continue this race, I’m reminded of why I even signed up. My teammate, Katrina says it best, “…I’m missing the births of my nephews, weddings, etc..it can’t be all for nothing. God has something for me this year!” She’s right. He has a plan. He has a purpose. Always.
