China blog #1
When I was a kid my family would tell me not to get flushed down the toilet or I would end up in China. Well I never got flushed down the toilet, but I still ended up in China. And I want to tell you about it.
I did not blog in China for our safety and the safety of those in which we were “working”. We had a great month overall. When we got to our city, our contact dropped us off and told us to focus on the university down the road and told us about an international church we could attend and then,..he left. So team TAE was on our own in a beautiful apartment in a gorgeous chilly town, which was a nice change after many months of heat , and a Chinese/English translation book.
We did end up going to the university. We prayed for divine appointments and God showed up. We began the month with no plan and no schedule and it was most likely the busiest month we have had.
Our schedule included things such as:
-English corners/English clubs in various universities and preparatory schools
-Taught English to members of a church
-Led worship at the International Church service
-Helped plan, create, dress up and facilitate a Harvest Party at the International school
-Babysat children of other “workers”/missionaries
-Prayed for and with other missionaries
-Learned about and intercede for a ministry, Starfish, which helps get prostitutes off the street and teach them how to make jewelry to earn an income. (You can learn more and purchase their jewelry at www.starfish-project.com)
-Led worship at a women’s meeting
-Visited and loved on children at an orphanage for the disabled
-Handed out tracks even in the middle of the night
-Gave Bibles to new friends
-Had great team time, doing a re-entry packet, a “Taming Your Tongue” study and prayer and hot seat feedback for every member
That is a list of some of the bigger things we did this past month. It was a shorter month than most and our only month in such a distinct country with only one month remaining so we were glad we got to do so many things. Outside of our “ministry schedule” we got to see The Great Wall, visit the Temple of Heaven, hike a mountain with students, check out the pearl market, eat some of the tastiest foods including family dinners with other missionaries, drink milk tea with bubbles, and spend 58 hours on a Chinese train on two different trips!
Overall it was one of my favorite months and I am so thankful for the experience. It was so different from any other month and it is the country I would like to go back to more than any other of the year!
Thank you for all your support and prayers and helping me get flushed down the toilet!
