This month my team & I decided to have a Prophecy night. This was one of the many aspects that I did not have much experience with prior to the WR. Though I am aware that we, as Christians, all have God given spiritual gifts. Prophecy isn’t one of the “big ones” therefore it wasn’t taught on much in the churches I went to throughout my life. Even though my experience with this kind of spiritual gift has been limited, I have grown fond to taking part in it. It has allowed me to see the Lord in news ways and that’s something I’m always looking for.

Taking part in prophecy is not a complicated process. In case you are new to it like I was let me explain a little. We begin by praying and preparing our hearts. We confess any sin to the Lord that might be blocking our ability to hear from him. We then choose one person at a time from the team to pray for. We pray blessings and favor over that person. We also ask the Lord if there is any word(s) or vision that he would like us to tell that person no matter how silly it may seem. Sometimes the silliest things have the biggest meaning to the person that is receiving prophecy.

(Note: It is important to understand that since prophecy is a spiritual gift, not everyone has it. This is not a bad thing. We are all the body of Christ and each member has a different purpose and/or spiritual gifts. So when partaking in this activity, if a person feels like they are not receiving anything from the Lord they are asked NOT to make anything up, but instead to encourage the person in something they do well or admire.)

I don’t want to make this out to be bigger than it is, yet at the same time I don’t want to downplay it’s significance. I was greatly moved by what I received at prophecy night from my team and I would like to share with you what was spoken over me and how excited it gets me.

Two of my teammates, Jessica & Kaylee both had a similar word for me. Jessica kept getting the word “calm” and for Kaylee it was “stillness.” What I sense that meant for me is that I am to come before the Lord more often with that mindset. Too often I approach the Lord like he’s my personal genie and not my personal Savior. I ask him for my “wish list”, and all the thing I deem important all the while having little concern for what he wants to teach me. I really do believe the Lord gave us two ears and one month for a reason…he wants us to listen twice as much as we speak, lol.

Tennyson spoke the word “strength” over me and went on to say that she gets the sense the Lord has more for me and he has equipped me to be able to handle all he gives. My buddy Greg said all he could think about when praying was “David” who just so happens to be one of my favourite people in scripture. That is because of a very good book series on him and his Mighty Men by Cliff Graham. It’s gospel meets “300” and all the men out there should check it out! Anyway, I feel that these two words go hand in hand just like the previous two. Strength is a word that easily comes to mind when you think of King David. Not only was he strong on the field of battle, but he was just as strong in his worship to the Lord. Something I very much aspire to be!

Lastly and what gets me most excited is what my teammate Jamie spoke over me. See had the vision of a chain, much like the ones you see holding locked doors together. Each link in the chain read “1st generation”, “2nd generation”, “3rd generation”, etc. and she saw the chain break. What I knew this meant the moment it left her lips is that the Lord has called me to establish a new generation of tradition within my family and the Keenan name. I’ve said many times throughout my life and these blogs that I desire to be a Godly husband and father someday. I feel like the Lord spoke to me in that moment through my teammate and what he said is that by his grace I’ll accomplish just that.
