We have been in Ukraine for about two weeks now and I absolutely love it here. We arrived after spending almost 15 hours in the airport, taking two flights and an overnight train to reach our destination of Lutugino, Ukraine to meet the McDonald family. We are working with Bruce and his family. We are living in their beautiful home and get to just be part of the family with the five kids they still have at home. I experience my first bit of culture shock when I walked into the grocery store here. We are definitely not in the villages of Nepal any longer.

After a few days of settling in and just living life we traveled to our first eyeglass clinic. Our ministry this month is to travel to villages and work with churches to give out free eyeglasses. The goal is to reach-out to the community and draw them into the church by offering free eye exams and free eyeglasses. One thing they people have to agree with however, is to talk with someone or listen to the gospel in order to receive glasses.

People listening to the Gospel before getting their glasses.

My job the first day was to model. I know. I know. I’m no America’s Next Top Model but the fact that the people could get their picture taken with an American was enough to get them excited. The pastor came up with the idea of printing off the picture and telling the people they could pick them up at church the next day. What a cool way to get people to come to church. So I have become a face that will be on over 80 walls in some small town in Ukraine!

It was an amazing thing to watch people walk out with their new glasses. To see them put them on and see they joy they had was an awesome experience. God is doing amazing things here and using the McDonald family in a huge way. They reach out to so many communities of people and you can see God’s hand working here.
