“Congratulations Chandlar you did it! You have just been accepted into the world race! I’m so excited for you!” I stood there with the phone up to my ear frozen in my own silent thoughts. “What. Did. I. Just do? This isn’t really going to happen. This plan is going to fall through just like my plans in the past.” But the difference between this plan and my plans in the past is that this wasn’t my plan, this was God’s!

I have always felt that burst of passion in my heart when people told me stories of their travels and the missions God has called them to go on. I could see the reflection of my eyes get wider and wider with sparkling passion through their eyes as they talked more and more about their adventures. The miracles they witnessed when there was no possible way it could’ve been a coincidence. Seeing the selflessness as locals give all they have to people even if they know that person is better off than they are. To the people they meet that changed their lives and Vice versa! The people who have NOTHING yet, they smile and laugh as if they have EVERYTHING! As if they were the richest people in the world. In some aspects they are!

When I was three I would tell my mom on multiple accounts that someday I was going to go to Africa. I have no rhyme or reason to why I chose Africa out of all places but I felt like God has put that continent on my heart probably ever since I was old enough to talk!

Honestly I didn’t choose to go on a nine month mission field. You’re either called to do it or called to have your mission at home. Another reason I felt called to do missions, ever since I signed up for this, people always tell me… “No don’t go out of the country.” “It’s too dangerous.” “Stay here and do missions locally.” I understand we need missionaries at home but what about the people in third world countries who will never have the opportunity to hear about God? The ones that can’t just walk into a church and hear the word because there might not be a church around within 25 miles. When you are a true follower of Christ you can’t let fear get in your way of what God has called you to do. That’s why I am dropping everything pushing fear aside and going on this mission field God has called me to!
