Bam, I’m in Africa. So we flew into
Nairobi, Kenya leaving behind the wind and rain of Dublin. At this moment it’s
bittersweet. Everyone loved the time we spent in Ireland: The lush landscape, amazing
contacts, welcoming people, and rewarding ministry. Africa is supposed to be boiling
hot and void of amenities that we’ve come to depend on in our western culture. Also
we’re stuck on this continent for three months… Despite the stereotypes and realities
that Africa has to offer; people that have journeyed here for any amount of
time find that it cultivates a burdensome love for the local community. Previous
World Racers have said that their experience (tough as it may have been) has
been invaluable to strengthening their walk with God.

                So I’ve
been here for two days and it’s been awesome. The people here have been
friendly, mostly because of their culture and partly because of me being a “mzungu
” (White Person) they assume I’m rich and looking to blow my money on outdoor
adventures and cheap souvenirs. I’ve been busy resting (our teams are exhausted),
checking out Nairobi, and growing a beard.  Haha.

                Tomorrow
morning we hop onto a bus at 7am to arrive in Kimusu, Kenya eight hours later. Kimusu
lays in southwest Kenya, sitting on the banks of Lake Victoria. It’s one of the
larger cities in Kenya and should be a good way to get our feet wet before
diving into the deep end that is Uganda. Our contact has an excellent reputation
in the community and with World Race teams. As of now ministry will be centered
around school, hospital, and prison ministry. Like always, things can change,
but the team is excited to explore Kisumu and share the love of Christ for the
next month.

                I hope
to keep up the blog more frequently as the trip progresses. It is hard for me to
put to words some of the experiences and thoughts that I encounter every single
day. I appreciate all who are keeping up with me, praying for me, and
supporting me financially.  God is at
work.
