Although our team had anticipated staying
in tents in Galway this month, we have been blessed with a great place to stay
in one of the largest homes in Greystones. Greystones is a small seaside town
filled with nice little homes and streets lined with coffee shops and other
small locally owned stores. We are about a one hour train ride to Dublin, this
ride provides beautiful views of the sea to the east and the mountains to the
west. Greystones is a popular vacation spot, especially for those from Northern
Ireland. We had the pleasure of having a retired couple stay in the home with
us last week, sharing stories and fellowship. I love it here and joke (or maybe
I’m serious) that I want to stay here
for the remainder of the trip.
Our contacts here have been more than
gracious, opening their house to us last minute and sharing everything they
have to offer. Jim and Kathy have been full time missionaries for over 10 years
have done foster care and have been very active in ministry across Ireland
(especially working with the “travelers” : a gypsy population that is in dire
need of God’s love). I have been in awe with the amount of work this couple
pours into each day. We’re staying very busy here helping out with the kids,
kitchen, remodeling of rooms, yard work, and much needed organization of the
house (both in and out). Jim and Kathy are big into sharing the gospel in many
different ways. We have been to Dublin’s city center, out to the country to
find the travelers, down the street to a neighbor, and over to another city to
minister to a man that has hit rock bottom, etc… Having no formal ‘job’
affords Jim and Kathy the ability to do anything they feel the Lord calling
them to do on a moment’s notice.
We’re staying here with another
World Race team, which has been awesome. The seven people from team ‘Jubilee’
have been fun, encouraging, and crazy to be around. So there are 13 of us here
in Greystones working hard and having a blast by the sea. More to come…
