“Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments.” Psalms 112:1

Why is this country in the state that it is? Why are we trying to push God out of our government? Why is a generation consumed with doing everything on their own?

I believe the answer can be found in the scripture above. I have talked multiple times on the fear of the Lord. I believe that it is the answer to a generation, and this nation, coming back to the Lord. We as a nation have forgotten how Powerful and Mighty God really is. We have tried to do it on our own, we have tried to build our own church and our own government- we have exalted our own will above Christ. Our country has to come back to the foundations of faith.

When I talk about fearing the Lord, I mean respecting God for who He is and what He has done. Please read more about the Fear of the Lord on my previous blog. If you look throughout scripture, fear of the Lord is almost always paired with following God’s commandments. What are God’s commandments?

God’s commandments were given to Moses on Mount Sinai in the form of the Ten Commandments. 1.) You shall have no other gods before Me. 2.) You shall have no idols above me in heaven or on earth. 3.) You shall not take the Lord’s name in vain. 4.) You shall keep the Sabbath day. 5.) You shall honor your father and mother. 6.) You shall not murder. 7.) You shall not commit adultery. 8.) You shall not steal. 9.) You shall not lie. 10.) You shall not covet your neighbor’s things (wife, house, land, etc.).

The law is what brings forth death.  It will always pull out what we are doing wrong, or expose deep sins that we are running from.  This is why Jesus died for all;  He became sin and death for us. It pleased God to put His Son on the Cross- He died for the redemption of all mankind. But what did Jesus do with the commandments?

Jesus summed them up in these commandments, “Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.   ‘And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. “And the second commandment is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark12:29-31

Jesus put the Ten Commandments into these two commandments and said that there are no commandments greater than these. The first four of the Ten Commandments have to do with God. We have to give our attention to God and also give him our entire beings. The last six of the Ten Commandments have to do with our actions. What are we doing for ourselves and others? How are we acting toward the world?
